The Program

The business of sports nowadays is played outside the fields and stadiums. It has evolved into a multibillion Euro industry that continues to grow rapidly; therefore the competition for sports management positions has become extremely rough. At the same time, companies realize that sport sponsorship is a highly effective avenue of communication and brand building. Sports related industries like media, advertising, public relations, as well as formal sports entities are looking for specialized and highly skilled managers who will tackle the important management challenges these agents face. Athletes, events, teams, facilities, licensed goods and sponsorship organizations are in need of highly professional management.

IE´s Master in Sports Management has been designed to provide students with the skills and techniques necessary to face these challenges and seek the business opportunities in an area where very few people are able to show formal education on specific issues of the industry. This innovative 13-months long program combines general business fundamentals of a top MBA with specific industry knowledge that help alumni to excel in any position within the sport market.

A Blended Program

The blended methodology combines face-to-face periodss with online interactive periods, reflecting today´s international business environment, where cross-cultural and cross-functional teams work on global projects regardless of their geographic location. Students do not have to leave their residence or work for extended periods of time to pursue a truly unique learning experience.

The virtual campus, active 24 hour per day, and the case method are the fundamental points of reference for the online activities promoting intense interaction and debate among students and professors, and creating strong and lasting relationships.

Structure

Lasting 13 months and starting in February, the program is based on two online interactive periods and three face-to-face periods, each lasting between one and two weeks, providing students with a deep understanding of business and management and a specialized view in sport management.

The three face-to-face periods are held at the beginning, in the middle and at the end of the program, and hosted in our Madrid campus and in San Francisco/Sillicon Valley.

Given that much of the world digital content is sport related and that many students look for creating their own start ups, the second face-to-face period in the middle of the program will be held in San Francisco/Sillicon Valley.  Over the course of one week, admitted participants expand their network and knowledge of the sports and venture capital industry to a new level, attending a series of conferences on the latest challenges and opportunities in the sector, as well as visiting world-class sport facilities and companies from differente areas of sport management such as sponsors, sport marketing firms and sport media groups.

Your Program

This program will train you to be a leader in public and private sectors of the sport industry where a combination of business expertise and industry specific knowledge will provide you with a competitive advantage when interfacing technology, management of sport organizations (events, sport facilities, media, sporting goods brands, etc.) and business.

You will work in a wide range of companies and organizations; from small sport clubs to large and awarded multi-sports clubs; from small ad start-ups specialist consulting firms to large multinationals; from local sport entities to international sport organizations.

Additionally you will be inspired to develop your own entrepreneurial projects within the sport or related sectors.

Requirements

IE's selection process emphasizes leadership potential, strong academic ability, and personal qualities and characteristics. The Admissions Committee considers candidates with the following requirements:

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university (or a degree equivalent to 180 Eurocredits).
  • Demonstrated professional experience.
  • A complete application including all supporting documents.

In order to evaluate more thoroughly the applicant credentials, the Admission Committee may require the GMAT/GRE/IE Admissions Test and/or the TOEFL examination.

Admissions Process

Course Fees

The tuition fees for the February 2012 intake of the Master in Sports Management total €29,200. Fees include:

  • All expenses related to learning activities, including, but not limited to: access to relevant technology, multimedia learning tools, conferences, access to physical and digital library resources, and access to the various IE Centers of Excellence
  • A contribution to the IE Foundation

Candidates pay a non-refundable application fee of €120 to cover administrative costs. Fees do not include any travel or living expenses. Admission is valid for two intakes from the date of admission, allowing the successful applicant to plan their learning experience.

University Diploma

Those students in possession of an official university diploma, or with an equivalent official diploma that allows access to post-graduate studies in the country of your university studies, will be awarded an Official University Master in Management from IE University.
